Chelsea Elward holds a technicolor kaleidoscope up to reality. Her work is a visual diary of the memories, dreams, curiosities and wonders of her life. Populated by fantastical and fantastically dressed creatures, each piece prompts us to see surrealism and fantasy of every day life.

A bit about the artist

I was an elementary teacher for 7 years; “retired” after baby two.

My next chapter was to design and launch Booked, south Evanston’s very own children’s bookstore.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. I handed over the reins of the store to focus on my treatment, recovery, and art. Booked is thriving today under the direction of two lovely ladies - you must visit!

Household of two dogs. If it were entirely up to me, we’d have three more.

My favorite work break during the week is to go ice skating at the local rink.

I have always been inspired by book illustrators, especially Sophie Blackall, Cozbi Cabrera, Helen Craig, Oliver Jeffers, Christian Robinson and David Roberts!

If I’m not illustrating, I’m designing and decorating homes… living rooms, kitchen layouts, bedrooms, paint colors, and art to hang!

Reading on our front porch in the summer, is my heaven.

Special thanks to my eldest son for putting my website together!
